The Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement, or CCFSSE, provides insight into faculty members’ teaching practices, use of professional time, and perceptions of students’ educational experiences.
Offered as a companion to CCSSE, CCFSSE allows colleges to examine faculty responses alongside student responses. Comparing the two perspectives can help colleges identify areas of agreement, uncover differences in how faculty and students experience teaching and learning, and support campus conversations about student engagement and success.
What CCFSSE Examines
CCFSSE asks faculty about:
- Teaching practices and course activities
- Academic expectations for students
- Faculty-student interaction
- Feedback provided to students
- Active and collaborative learning
- Use of academic and student support services
- Time spent on teaching and other professional activities
- Perceptions of students’ engagement and educational experiences
How Colleges Use CCFSSE Results
Colleges use CCFSSE results to:
- Compare faculty perceptions with students’ reported experiences
- Identify areas where faculty and student perspectives align or differ
- Support discussions about teaching, learning, and academic expectations
- Inform professional learning and institutional improvement efforts
CCFSSE reports are designed to let participating colleges view faculty perceptions alongside related CCSSE student findings.
Participation
CCFSSE is available to colleges participating in CCSSE. The survey is administered online and invites eligible full- and part-time faculty teaching credit courses during the spring academic term.
