CCFSSE Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is CCFSSE?

CCFSSE , the Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement, is a companion to CCSSE. It asks faculty members about their teaching practices, academic expectations, use of professional time, and perceptions of students’ educational experiences.

How is CCFSSE connected to CCSSE?

CCFSSE includes questions that correspond with topics examined on CCSSE. This allows colleges to review faculty responses alongside students’ reported experiences and identify areas where the two perspectives align or differ.

Why should a college administer CCFSSE?

CCFSSE provides a faculty perspective on teaching, learning, and student engagement. Results can help colleges support conversations about instructional practices, academic expectations, student support, and professional learning.

Participation & Administration

Which colleges may participate?

Which faculty members participate?

CCFSSE is administered during the spring academic term in coordination with CCSSE.

How long does the survey take?

Most faculty members complete CCFSSE in approximately 20 minutes.

Reporting & Results

What results do participating colleges receive?

Participating colleges receive summaries of faculty responses and reports that allow them to examine CCFSSE findings alongside related CCSSE student findings.

Reports may include:

  • Student and Faculty Frequency Distributions
  • Faculty Frequency Distributions
Can colleges compare faculty and student responses?

Yes. CCFSSE allows colleges to examine faculty responses alongside related CCSSE student findings.

The results represent two perspectives on teaching and learning and should be used to support discussion rather than determine whether either faculty or students are “correct.”

Can colleges examine differences among faculty groups?

Colleges can examine results based on part- and full-time teaching status only.

Who has access to CCFSSE results?

CCFSSE results are available to authorized representatives of the participating college. Individual faculty responses are not publicly reported.
